Who can take part

  • You can understand the study and sign informed consent
  • You are willing to be randomly assigned to a study group
  • Your systolic blood pressure is between 120 and 159 (not under 120 and not 160 or higher)
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is under 40
  • Your weight has been stable for the past 3 months (less than a 2 kg change) and you can keep it stable during the study
  • You are not on blood pressure medications and you do not have major other illnesses (like diabetes or chronic kidney disease), and your basic heart and exercise tests are normal
