This trial studies whether giving 30% versus 60% oxygen during early resuscitation (breathing support) affects brain and nerve development in very low birthweight, very preterm infants. Who can take part

  • Baby must be born very preterm, between 23 weeks 0 days and 28 weeks 6 days gestation
  • Baby must receive full resuscitation at birth at the study hospital (breathing support/resuscitation team present)
  • Baby must be born at the study center (not transferred from another hospital after birth)
  • Baby must not have a major congenital (from-birth) condition
  • Baby must be able to receive the study’s oxygen strategy as part of resuscitation
