  • Born before 32 weeks of pregnancy
  • Received a special breathing mask (without added moisture) within the first 10 minutes after birth
  • Parent or guardian agrees to the study
  • No severe birth defects that affect breathing or heart
  • No known lack of lung surfactant (a natural substance that helps lungs stay open)
