Testing fluid removal through the belly in heart-kidney failure

This trial studies a treatment that removes extra fluid through a catheter placed in the abdomen (peritoneal ultrafiltration) for people with “cardio-renal syndrome” (heart and kidney problems together). It may help those who stay congested despite high-dose water pills (diuretics) and have certain heart circulation and fluid signs.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • Your heart pumping strength is reduced (left side ejection fraction 60% or less)
  • You have serious ongoing shortness of breath/fatigue from heart failure (NYHA class III–IV) despite standard medicines
  • You have signs of right-sided heart strain and fluid overload, confirmed by a heart pressure test (right heart catheterization) after stable meds
  • Your kidneys are not in end-stage failure (measured kidney filtration needs to be above a cutoff)
  • You have needed high-dose IV diuretics for congestion at least once in the last 6 months, showing the usual water pills may not be working
