Who can take part
- You are in the hospital for heart failure and expected to stay at least 24 hours.
- Your doctor estimates you have at least 10 pounds (4.5 kg) of extra fluid on you.
- You take a daily water pill prescription.
- You are 22 years or older.
- You have signs that your body may not respond well to standard water pills, such as low chloride, low urine output, or low urine sodium after a dose.
- You do not have any of the following: very low blood pressure, recent heart attack or stroke, severe lung disease, active infection, severe kidney disease, or other serious conditions that would make the study unsafe.
