Radiation plan trial to help protect swallowing after mouth cancer

Who can take part

  • You are willing to sign informed consent for the study
  • You can complete radiotherapy and return for all follow-up visits (and can do quality-of-life questionnaires)
  • Your mouth cancer was confirmed under the microscope and has already been surgically removed, with at least one neck lymph-node surgery done on the same side
  • Your pathology report suggests you need post-surgery radiation (for example: close or positive margin, lymph/nerve vessel features, advanced tumor stage, or positive lymph nodes as recommended by your doctor)
  • At least one side of your neck was found cancer-free after surgery, with 10 or more lymph nodes examined on each “no-cancer” side
  • You have not had head and neck cancer in the past 5 years and have never received radiation to the head/neck before
