Who can take part

  • You are 18 to under 70 years old
  • You are getting radiation for squamous cell cancer in the throat area: oropharynx, larynx, or hypopharynx
  • Your cancer is not metastatic, and you must need both sides of the neck to be treated, with the option to spare the opposite side or one submandibular gland
  • Your treatment plan includes radiation given along with chemotherapy (unless chemotherapy can’t be used for you)
  • You can attend long-term follow-up visits and fill out swallowing and quality-of-life questionnaires in English or Hindi
  • You agree to a FEES swallowing test (a procedure that looks at swallowing)
