Who can take part

  • You are 18–80 years old and have Chinese ethnicity.
  • You are having a planned, one-sided (unilateral) first total knee replacement—not a revision and not both knees at once.
  • Your overall health status is ASA I–III (generally okay for surgery).
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is under 40.
  • You can speak and understand Cantonese and can sign written consent.
  • You do not have allergies to opioid medicines, local anesthetics (numbing medicines), paracetamol, or NSAIDs (pain/anti-inflammatory medicines).
