Who can take part

  • You are having a first-time total knee replacement on one knee only.
  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You are in good general health (classified as ASA I to III).
  • You have not been taking strong opioid pain pills regularly for a long time.
  • You are not allergic to local numbing medicines (like lidocaine or bupivacaine).
  • You do not have diabetic nerve problems or a BMI of 35 or higher.
