Who can take part
- You’re age 18–64 and can sign consent to join the study
- You have severe face tissue loss that needs facial transplant and missing one or both hands/forearms
- You are HIV-negative at the time of transplant, and the donor/recipient “crossmatch” test is negative
- You can and will do mental health and social work check-ins before and after surgery, and attend follow-up visits
- You’re willing to take immune-suppressing medicines long-term and return for monitoring
- You are not pregnant (and if you can get pregnant, you can test negative and use reliable contraception)
