If you have mid or lower rectal cancer and are planning pre-surgery treatment, your information and stool sample may help researchers improve how treatment is chosen.

Who can take part
- You have confirmed cancer of the lower or middle rectum (adenocarcinoma) and it is stage II or III.
- You are planning “neoadjuvant” treatment first (radiation with chemo and/or chemotherapy).
- You must be able to give informed consent and be 18 or older.
- You cannot take antibiotics during the month before your stool sample.
- You must not have a permanent or temporary stoma (ostomy), and you should not have had pelvic radiation in the past year.
- You should not be pregnant or breastfeeding; and you must use reliable birth control during treatment and for at least 8 weeks after the last course of radiochemotherapy.
