Breathing test to measure heart oxygen use

Who can take part

  • You must be able to safely have an MRI scan (no certain implants/metal, not pregnant).
  • You must not eat or drink caffeine in the 12 hours before the exam.
  • If you use nicotine regularly, you must not have used it in the past 6 months.
  • If you take heart/blood-vessel medicines like nitro, you must be able to stop those for 12 hours before the exam (if enrolled as a patient).
  • You must be able to take adenosine for the test if you’re in the patient group (no certain heart rhythm or breathing conditions).
  • If you’re a patient, you must not have had a recent heart attack, recent unstable heart symptoms, prior bypass surgery, or unsafe heart rhythm issues.
