Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 80 years old
- You can give informed consent (agree to take part after understanding the study)
- You either have metabolic syndrome (at least 3 of these: belly fat, high triglycerides, low HDL, high blood pressure, high fasting sugar) or are a healthy volunteer with no major heart/lung problems
- You can safely have an MRI scan (no MRI-incompatible metal/implants, and not pregnant or possibly pregnant)
- No caffeine in the 12 hours before the scan (coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, energy drinks)
- For healthy volunteers: do not currently smoke and have no known major medical problems affecting the heart or lungs
