Using carbon dioxide to check blood flow in the heart

This study tests if breathing in carbon dioxide can help doctors see how well blood flows to your heart muscle. It is for people with known or suspected heart disease who already had a scan showing reduced blood flow.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • Your heart condition is stable and you have known or suspected coronary artery disease (blockages in heart arteries).
  • An earlier scan (SPECT or PET) showed at least mild to moderate heart muscle stress (5-9% or more), or a test called FFR was less than 0.75.
  • You can have the research scan within 30 days of your previous heart scan and before any heart procedure to open blockages.
  • You do not have a pacemaker, metal implants, or any device that could be affected by MRI.
