This study looks at treatment results for central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA), a type of hair loss that causes scarring and permanent hair loss. It will follow African-American women to see how well treatments work for different levels of severity.

Who can take part

  • Be an African-American woman age 18 to 60
  • Have a confirmed CCCA diagnosis (including a scalp biopsy proving it)
  • Have CCCA severity between 1 and 4 (as measured by a clinical scale)
  • Be able to be seen for treatment at the Wake Forest Baptist Health Dermatology outpatient clinic
  • Have CCCA only: no other hair-loss conditions at the same time
  • No certain recent scalp treatments (topicals in last 4 months; oral antibiotics within last year; more than two steroid shots to the scalp in last year)
