Who can take part
- You are an adult age 18 to 100
- You are scheduled for hemorrhoid removal surgery (hemorrhoidectomy) for severe (Grade III or IV) hemorrhoids
- You are able to receive general anesthesia (you can be safely put to sleep for surgery)
- You do not have conditions that would prevent hemorrhoid surgery
- You do not have a history of schizophrenia or other hallucination-related psychiatric illness, and no history of psychosis
- You are not a long-term (chronic) opioid user (especially if you have a pain contract) or haven’t used narcotic pain medicine for at least 1 month before surgery
