Who can take part

  • Be between 1 and 21 years old
  • Have newly diagnosed ITP with platelets 20 or less (x10^9/L)
  • Have at least one high-risk feature (age 10+, significant bleeding, positive ANA, or no recent infection in the last 2 weeks)
  • Have had no ITP treatment yet, and no steroid medicine at the equivalent of 0.5 mg/kg prednisone in the last 2 weeks
  • Have acceptable kidney and liver lab results based on study blood tests
  • Bone marrow test done to rule out cancer in the bone marrow
