Who can take part
- Be able to sign a consent form (or have a trusted research proxy who can consent for you).
- Have a brain SPECT scan done (DaTscan) and be found eligible based on the scan results.
- Plan for a possible lumbar puncture (spinal fluid test) unless your doctor confirms it’s unsafe.
- Either be: age 30+ with Parkinson’s for 2 years or less, or be age 57+ with no Parkinson’s symptoms, or be age 60+ at high risk (“prodromal”).
- If you’re taking certain medicines that affect brain signaling (including ADHD medicines like methylphenidate/amphetamines or modafinil), you must be able to pause them long enough before the SPECT scan, as directed by your doctor.
- If you’re pregnant-capable, you must not be pregnant during the study and must have a negative pregnancy test on scan day.
