New treatment strategy for children with newly diagnosed liver cancer

Who can take part

  • Be diagnosed with newly found hepatoblastoma confirmed by a tissue biopsy (unless biopsy is unsafe in an emergency)
  • Be a child patient (typical for pediatric trials) who can do normal activities or limited activity (ECOG 0–2, or age-based activity score)
  • Have enough kidney and liver function for chemotherapy (specific lab cutoffs for creatinine clearance/GFR and bilirubin/AST/ALT)
  • Not have had chemotherapy or liver-targeted cancer treatments before, except surgery to remove the tumor
  • Not have certain blockers: no other investigational drugs, no other cancer medicines, no uncontrolled infection, and no prior solid organ transplant
