Who can take part
- You have squamous cell cancer of the esophagus or the area where the esophagus meets the stomach
- Your tumor is not removable by surgery (not fully curable with surgery), and scans show no distant spread (except certain lymph node-only cases)
- If you had prior treatment or surgery, the cancer has come back only in the nearby area—not spread to distant organs
- You are at least 18, and your overall health is good enough for treatment (ECOG 0–2)
- Blood tests, liver/kidney function, and clotting tests must be within required limits
- You cannot have certain prior treatments, lung conditions, autoimmune disease on immune-suppressing meds, or other listed exclusions
