Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for elective heart surgery such as bypass or valve repair/replacement, with a heart-lung machine (extracorporeal circulation) used in a standard way
  • Your surgery date and plan fit the trial’s pre-surgery timeline
  • You can read and understand German well enough to complete thinking tests and training in German
  • You have no history of stroke
  • You do not have psychiatric or neurological conditions that could interfere with thinking test results
