This trial tests whether an “MMP-9 inhibitor” medicine given as doxycycline (a tetracycline-type antibiotic) can reduce persistent leaking and fluid in wet age-related macular degeneration. It may help people whose wet AMD is not fully controlled even after several anti-VEGF injections.

Who can take part

  • You have wet age-related macular degeneration affecting the retina (wAMD).
  • You’re being treated with anti-VEGF eye injections, and the leaking disease is still active after at least 3 back-to-back injections.
  • You still have persistent retinal fluid seen on eye imaging (with or without other fluid) from the wet AMD area.
  • You have NOT had bad side effects from tetracycline medicines (the study uses doxycycline).
  • You can return for required follow-up visits at about 6 and 9 months.
  • You are able to stay on the study injection plan and not need an urgent change to other treatments during the 9 months.
