Compare IV versus inhaled anesthesia for esophageal surgery

Who can take part

  • You have primary esophageal cancer that hasn’t spread beyond the esophagus (stage 1–3 believed).
  • You are scheduled for surgery aimed at curing your esophageal cancer.
  • You are willing to be randomly assigned to IV anesthesia or inhaled anesthesia.
  • You have not had prior esophageal cancer surgery (except diagnostic biopsies).
  • Your age is between 18 and 85.
  • You can safely receive either propofol (IV) or sevoflurane (inhaled), with no listed allergy or contraindication.
