Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a minimally invasive esophagectomy (surgery to remove part of the esophagus using small incisions and a camera).
  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • Your surgery is not planned as an open procedure (large cut) or a 3-stage (McKeown) type.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is less than 35.
  • You have not been using strong painkillers (opioids) for more than 3 months before surgery.
