Who can take part

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have TB-related fluid around the heart confirmed on an ultrasound (echocardiogram)
  • Start TB treatment (anti-TB therapy) within 5 days of beginning antibiotics
  • Have TB confirmed from fluid around the heart or meet a “probable” TB definition based on symptoms and specific test results
  • Be able and willing to have a procedure to drain the fluid from around the heart (pericardiocentesis), if your doctor recommends it
  • Agree to TB testing that includes checking for HIV if your status isn’t already known
