Tested added ethanol vein treatment during repeat atrial fibrillation ablation

Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation

Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This trial compares two ways to help stop atrial fibrillation during a repeat procedure: standard vein isolation only versus standard isolation plus an added medicine (ethanol) into the vein of Marshall. It aims to see whether the added step improves results when atrial fibrillation returns after a previous successful treatment.

Who can take part

  • You’re over 18 years old.
  • You’re scheduled for a repeat ablation because paroxysmal atrial fibrillation came back after a prior PVI.
  • At the start of the study, testing shows your prior pulmonary vein isolation is still lasting.
  • You do not have persistent atrial fibrillation (an ongoing form of AF, not brief episodes).
  • You haven’t had certain prior heart ablation steps (including SVC/roofline/mitral line or vein of Marshall ethanol).
  • No blood clots in the left atrium/left atrial appendage on pre-procedure scans, and your heart pumping strength is okay (left ejection fraction is at least 35%).

NCT07236619Recruiting
A new heart procedure for atrial fibrillation

This study tests a new catheter that uses pulsed field energy to isolate the veins in your heart that trigger atrial fibrillation. The goal is to see how long the effects last, and you would need to have a repeat procedure about 2–3 months after the first one.

NCT06383975Recruiting
Two new treatments for AF that returned after first procedure

This trial tests two new treatments for persistent atrial fibrillation that came back after an initial procedure. One uses a targeted chemical injection, the other uses a special energy field to re-isolate the veins involved.

NCT06878924Not yet recruiting
Comparing two extra treatments for persistent atrial fibrillation during ablation

This study compares two ways to treat persistent atrial fibrillation during a catheter ablation procedure. It tests whether adding isolation of the back wall of the left atrium or using alcohol to ablate a small vein near the heart can improve outcomes compared to standard pulmonary vein isolation alone.

NCT07095959Recruiting
Ethanol vein infusion plus pulsed field ablation for paroxysmal AF

This study compares two treatments for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF that comes and goes): using pulsed electric field ablation alone versus combining it with ethanol infusion into a specific vein. The goal is to see which approach works better for first-time ablation patients.

NCT05427435Recruiting
Testing alcohol treatment of a heart vein during atrial fibrillation ablation

This study tests whether applying a small amount of alcohol to a specific heart vein (“vein of Marshall”) is safe and feasible during a standard atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation. It may help improve AF treatment, but the goal here is mainly to see if the approach can be done safely in the right patients.

NCT06578793Recruiting
Catheter plus vein ablation for atrial fibrillation with heart failure

This trial tests whether adding a vein ablation to standard catheter ablation helps people with persistent atrial fibrillation and heart failure. It aims to find the best treatment to improve heart function and reduce symptoms.
