Who can take part
- Your cancer is confirmed by biopsy as adenocarcinoma of the esophagus (neck or chest area) or the gastroesophageal junction
- Your cancer is stage II or III (spread outside the area of the esophagus on scans usually excludes you)
- You must be able to get standard chemoradiation using one of several approved chemotherapy combinations (the team will match you to a regimen)
- You must be eligible for an ultrasound-guided injection into the esophagus tumor (endoscopic ultrasound, called EUS)
- Scans must show 1 to 4 measurable tumor spots in the esophagus that the study can track over time
- Your blood counts and organ function (kidneys, liver) must meet minimum limits, and you must be able to participate with an ECOG status of 0–2
