Who can take part

  • Be 18 years or older and getting your first (primary) liver transplant
  • Have body weight/body size high enough: an ascites-adjusted BMI of at least 25
  • Have liver graft function that looks acceptable (bilirubin under 5) and good blood flow on ultrasound
  • Not have certain transplant-related problems that are untreated (vascular or bile duct narrowing/strictures)
  • No history of specific cancers outside approved limits, or other excluded major transplant situations (like multi-organ transplant)
