Test of an adjustable valve system for hydrocephalus shunts

This trial checks how safe and well a specific adjustable valve (Polaris 24) works in people with hydrocephalus who need a valve shunt. You may be eligible if you already have this valve implanted for a first shunt, a shunt replacement, or after an endoscopic procedure failed, and you do not have certain infection, bleeding, or heart-circulation conditions.

Who can take part

  • You have already been implanted with the Polaris 24 adjustable valve system.
  • The valve was put in for a first shunt, a shunt valve replacement, or because an endoscopic ventriculostomy (EVT) failed.
  • You can legally and willingly give informed consent for the study.
  • You do not have an infection anywhere along the shunt, or anywhere else in your body that doctors suspect could affect it.
  • You are not taking blood thinners and do not have a bleeding tendency or blood in the fluid around your brain.
  • You do not have a ventriculo-atrial shunt (a type of shunt going to the heart) tied to congenital heart disease or other heart/lung malformations.
