Who can take part
- You’re 18 years old or older.
- You have a weakened immune system (for example: HIV, organ transplant, blood cancers, chemotherapy, long-term steroids, or other immune-suppressing medicines).
- You are currently in the hospital, emergency department, or a day hospital for this illness.
- Your doctors have diagnosed PCP as “proven” or “probable” using specific criteria.
- You have NOT had a severe allergic reaction to TMP-SMX or other sulfa medicines.
- You haven’t already taken TMP-SMX to prevent PCP for 4 or more weeks, and you haven’t had more than 96 hours of any PCP treatment.
