Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 75 years old
  • Have circulation blockage in the lower leg classified as Rutherford 3, 4, or 5
  • Have a new blockage or a re-narrowing in below-the-knee arteries (with blood flow still present beyond the blockage)
  • Kidney function must be good enough (creatinine clearance 30 mL/min or higher)
  • Avoid recent or urgent artery problems: no acute clot/blockage at the target site, and no stroke in the last 90 days
  • Agree to allow contrast dye and medication-related treatments (no known allergy to contrast, blood thinners, anti-platelet drugs, or clot-busters)
