Who can take part

  • You are age 20 or older.
  • You need ICU care and are expected to stay in the ICU for more than 48 hours.
  • Your severity score (APACHE II) is 15 or higher.
  • Your blood phenylalanine (PHE) level is at least 95 micromoles (uM) at the start of the study.
  • You are not expected to die or have survival less than 3 days.
  • You don’t have other serious illnesses (like end-stage cancer) that could limit survival within 3 months.
