Who can take part

  • You’re between 22 and 70 years old.
  • You currently smoke at least 10 cigarettes per day and have a recent-smoking carbon monoxide level over 10 ppm.
  • You haven’t had substance-abuse treatment in the last 30 days.
  • Your smoking fits “tobacco use disorder” based on DSM-5, and you’re in generally stable health.
  • If you’re female, you can’t be pregnant and you’ll use reliable birth control.
  • You must be willing to get an MRI and be able to lie still; no metal in your head/scanner safety issues and no strong claustrophobia.
  • You’re motivated to quit (you answer “very likely” or “somewhat likely” on the quit-motivation questions).
