Who can take part

  • You are an adult needing lumbar spinal fusion surgery
  • You have medical insurance and can sign informed consent
  • Your overall health risk is in the lower to moderate range (ASA 1–3)
  • You have no allergy to local anesthetics (numbing medicines)
  • You can safely use morphine (no morphine intolerance, and not on morphine for over 3 months)
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
