Who can take part

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to understand the consent form (English).
  • You must receive care as a patient of the UAB Dental School.
  • You need dental implants to replace missing tooth/teeth in at least one back-and-front “quarter” of your mouth.
  • Your jaw bone width must be 5 millimeters or less, based on an exam and CBCT scan.
  • You should not be a smoker or heavy tobacco user (over 10 cigarettes per day).
  • You should not have serious medical problems that make mouth surgery or healing unsafe, and you need good oral hygiene/compliance.
