Who can take part

  • You (or your child) have type 1 diabetes (T1D) and are antibody negative
  • If you are in the high-risk group: your HbA1c is at least 6.0% and your BMI is at or above the 85th percentile
  • If you are in the control group: your HbA1c is 5.6% or lower
  • You do not have a history of chronic kidney disease or recent kidney injury
  • You can safely do the study fasting (there are no medical problems that prevent fasting)
  • You are not pregnant and have no MRI safety issues
