Who can take part
- Age 18 to 64 years old
- Pre-diabetes on recent testing (fasting glucose, HbA1c, or a 2-hour glucose test), or you’ve consistently taken metformin for about a year to prevent diabetes
- You currently sit a lot and move little: under 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity weekly and over 6 hours sitting daily
- You walk fewer than 6,500 steps per day on average over 5 days (including at least one weekend day)
- You can wear a Fitbit and upload activity data every day during the whole study
- You can follow the study rules: no other planned exercise, special controlled meals before visits, and avoiding certain over-the-counter medicines for 3 days before inpatient visits
