Stent or procedure for narrowed carotid artery after neck radiation
Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.
This trial studies a carotid artery procedure (revascularization) to treat a major narrowing in the neck artery that happened after you had radiation for head or neck cancer. It may help prevent stroke risk by improving blood flow to the brain.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You had radiation for head and neck cancer, and the neck artery narrowing showed up at least 1 year after finishing radiation
- Your carotid artery narrowing is confirmed by imaging (like ultrasound, CT angiography, MRI, or angiography) and is more than 50%
- This narrowing is in the same side as the radiation area (the treated field included part of the carotid system)
- You are not being treated only for “re-narrowing” after a previous carotid procedure
- You cannot have certain other brain vessel problems (like arteriovenous malformation or aneurysm) or severe narrowing/blocked artery inside the head on that same side

This trial tests whether placing a stent in the narrowed carotid artery is a good option for people who are at high risk for the standard surgery (carotid endarterectomy). If you have significant blockages in your neck arteries and certain health or anatomical factors that make surgery riskier, this study may be for you.
This trial tests a stent procedure to open a severely blocked carotid artery in people who have not had a stroke or mini-stroke from that blockage recently. It aims to see if the procedure is safe and effective for preventing future strokes.
This trial tests a procedure to open a blocked carotid artery in the neck to improve blood flow to the brain. It's for people who still have symptoms (like weakness or vision problems) despite medical treatment.
This study is for people who have severe narrowing (stenosis) in one of the main neck arteries that supply blood to the brain. It tests how well ultrasound can diagnose this narrowing by comparing it with more detailed scans done before a stent procedure.
This trial compares the best timing for surgery or stenting to open a narrowed carotid artery after a minor stroke. The goal is to see if doing the procedure sooner or later reduces the chance of another stroke.
This study looks at an approach to better plan treatment for people with significant narrowing of the carotid artery (the main artery to the brain). It may help doctors choose safer, more effective care after surgery.
