Who can take part

  • You were born very early: less than 30 weeks gestation at birth
  • Your parent/guardian agrees to take part in the study
  • Before the study blood transfusion, you can receive small amounts of milk/feeds (at least about 15 mL per kg per day)
  • Feeding should not be medically unsafe for you (for example, certain major stomach/intestine birth problems)
  • You have not had NEC (NEC stage 2 or higher) or SIP before your first study blood transfusion
