Who can take part

  • You are a woman aged 18 or older.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is 30 or higher (obese range).
  • You have not had any weight-loss surgery (bariatric surgery).
  • You do not have any conditions that affect your body's stress hormone (cortisol), such as pregnancy, liver or heart problems, unstable mental health, alcohol or drug dependence, or active cancer.
  • You do not have an active infection, autoimmune disease (except treated low thyroid), inflammatory disease, or a brain disorder.
  • You are not currently taking certain medications like antidepressants, steroids, anti-inflammatory drugs, or antibiotics.
