Who can take part
- Be 18 to 75 years old
- Have a good functional status (ECOG 0–2—able to do most daily activities)
- Have biopsy-proven rectal adenocarcinoma located within 10 cm of the anus, and it must be stage II or III by MRI without distant spread
- Have not had any cancer treatment before for this illness (no prior radiation, chemo, immunotherapy, etc.)
- Have no immune system or autoimmune diseases (and no HIV infection)
- Have blood tests and organ function strong enough for treatment (examples include enough white cells, hemoglobin, platelets, and acceptable kidney and liver numbers)
