Exercise timing program for breathing trouble and sleep apnea
Part of Lungs & breathing clinical trials.
This trial tests whether doing exercise at set intervals can improve daily function in Veterans who have both COPD (lung disease) and OSA (sleep apnea). It may help you move and function better while managing symptoms from both conditions.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You have both COPD and sleep apnea (OSA), confirmed by lung testing and a sleep study
- Your breathing test shows COPD pattern with FEV1/FVC under 70
- Your thinking/memory screening score is above 20 on the MoCA test
- You have not had certain heart artery problems (like bypass surgery or positive stress tests)

This study measures how well the right side of your heart works when you are resting and when you exercise, in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It may help researchers better understand COPD-related heart strain and guide future care.
This study looks at how brief drops in oxygen levels during sleep affect lung function, health, and survival in people with moderate COPD. Participants will do exercise tests and have their oxygen levels monitored to better understand the disease.
This study tests whether adding exercise to your current sleep apnea treatment (CPAP machine) can help you breathe better and feel more rested. You'll be asked to follow an exercise program while researchers track how it affects your sleep and daytime energy.
This study looks at how sleep apnea affects thinking skills and overall health in older veterans who also have COPD. It may help researchers understand what changes to target to improve daytime functioning and wellbeing.
This study tests a telehealth program that combines lifestyle coaching and exercise to help people with both COPD and sleep apnea improve their breathing and daily function. It may be a good fit if you are overweight, have a history of smoking, and feel short of breath during light activity.
This Phase 2 study looks at the cardiovascular (heart/blood vessel) effects of having both sleep apnea and COPD. It may help doctors better understand who is at risk and how to manage these breathing problems together.
