  • You are being considered for removal of an endotracheal (breathing) tube
  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are not pregnant
  • You can understand and sign the informed consent form
  • You do not have a neuromuscular (nerve or muscle) disease
  • Your brain awareness score (GCS) is not too low (must be 14–15)
