- You are being considered for removal of an endotracheal (breathing) tube
- You are 18 years or older
- You are not pregnant
- You can understand and sign the informed consent form
- You do not have a neuromuscular (nerve or muscle) disease
- Your brain awareness score (GCS) is not too low (must be 14–15)
