Who can take part

  • Be 18 to 89 years old and currently in the hospital for acute spinal cord injury rehab at Mount Sinai
  • Have a spinal cord injury within the last 30 days to 6 months with loss of movement and/or feeling
  • Have blood pressure instability that your doctor can confirm (for example, low blood pressure, a big drop when standing, or big swings during the day)
  • Not be dependent on a ventilator right now
  • No implanted heart devices (pacemaker/defibrillator) or serious heart rhythm/circulation problems; and no recent heart attack
  • Have no implanted stimulators/other devices that interfere with the study (including certain implanted brain/spine/nerve stimulators, cochlear implants, or intracardiac lines), and no open sores near the electrode sites on the neck/upper back
