Testing an annatto-based treatment for statin muscle pain

This early-stage trial tests whether an annatto-derived product (called GG) can help people who develop new muscle pain after starting or increasing a statin. If you recently noticed statin-related muscle aches, this study may see whether the treatment improves symptoms and safety.

Who can take part

  • You are age 40 or older
  • You are taking a statin and have muscle pain (with or without other symptoms)
  • Your muscle pain started within 90 days of starting the statin or increasing the dose
  • You have not had certain recent medications or supplements (no steroid medication in the past month, and no CoQ10 supplement in the past month)
  • You do not have active cancer or major neurological/psychiatric problems, including alcohol or drug abuse
  • If you could become pregnant, you can use reliable birth control and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding
