Who can take part

  • You’re 18 or older and your bones have fully matured
  • You need a first-time (primary) shoulder replacement on one side for a target shoulder problem
  • Your doctor must judge your shoulder and bone quality as good during exam and surgery
  • Your diagnosis must match one of these: arthritis (primary/secondary), post-injury arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, certain humeral head fractures, or cuff tear arthritis (with a specific related condition)
  • You must NOT be having revision surgery (replacement of a previous implant) and there should be no serious infection in the shoulder
  • You must not have recently had things that could affect healing (no steroid injections in past 3 months, no other shoulder replacement on the opposite side in past 3 months, and no metal allergy to the implant materials)
