ICG dye to lower leakage after salvage laryngectomy surgery

This study tests whether using a special fluorescent dye (ICG) during salvage laryngectomy can reduce the chance of a surgical “leak” (a fistula) in the throat area. If you’re having salvage surgery after prior radiation, it may help surgeons better see where to place tissue coverage to prevent complications.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are having salvage laryngectomy after prior radiation or chemo-radiation
  • Your planned throat defect can be safely imaged with the ICG dye
  • Your surgery plan includes a blood-supply tissue flap (not a supra- or infraclavicular rotational flap)
  • You can attend all scheduled visits and complete study tests
  • You are not pregnant, and you do not have an iodine allergy
