PSMA scan to plan prostate surgery and help protect erections
Part of Cancer, Kidney & urinary clinical trials.
This trial tests whether using a PSMA-PET scan before prostatectomy can guide surgery in a way that helps preserve sexual function. It may be most helpful if you have certain kinds of prostate cancer and want to keep erections after surgery.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You have “significant” prostate cancer based on specific biopsy results or risk category
- Your current sexual function is good to mildly/moderately affected (IIEF-EF above 17)
- You want to maintain erections after treatment
- You will have (or recently had) a standard prostate MRI within about 6 months of surgery date
- Your cancer doctor plans for you to have prostate removal surgery within 90 days of joining the study

This trial tests if a special PET scan using PSMA-1007 can find prostate cancer spread in men who have just been diagnosed with high-risk prostate cancer and plan to have surgery. The scan may help doctors better understand the cancer before removing the prostate and lymph nodes.
This trial tests if a special PET scan (PSMA-PET) plus MRI is better than MRI alone at finding the full extent of high-risk prostate cancer before surgery. It aims to improve surgical planning by checking scan results against the removed prostate tissue.
This trial uses a special PET/MR scan to help doctors aim stereotactic radiation more precisely for certain higher-risk or unfavorable intermediate prostate cancers. It studies whether this targeted approach can safely treat the prostate (and specific areas needing extra treatment) without spreading to the body.
This trial tests whether using a specialized PSMA PET scan to guide radiation can better treat prostate cancer that returns after prostate surgery. It targets the “prostate bed” area with a shorter, stronger radiation schedule (hypofractionated) to control rising PSA levels.
This trial is testing whether a special scan (PSMA PET/CT) before surgery can help doctors decide if you need to remove lymph nodes. It is for men with high-risk prostate cancer who are already planning to have robot-assisted prostate removal.
This trial tests if a special scan called PSMA PET can help diagnose prostate cancer in men whose MRI results are not clear. It may help avoid unnecessary biopsies.
