Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have a history of smoking or nicotine vaping
  • You have one or more risk factors for lung complications after surgery (like lung disease, breathlessness with light activity, weak breathing muscles, or lower-than-normal lung function)
  • Your planned joint surgery is expected to take more than 30 minutes
  • You can follow exercise instructions and tell the study team about side effects (like pain, tiredness, or needing help)
