Who can take part

  • Be age 18 to 60
  • Have a BMI of at least 40, or at least 35 with another health problem that could improve with weight loss surgery
  • Have a midline ventral hernia (around the belly button or upper/central abdomen) about 1 to 4 cm wide, confirmed on a CT scan
  • Be planning weight-loss surgery (sleeve or gastric bypass) agreed by a team of doctors, and approved by your health insurance
  • Not have had a previous hernia repair using mesh
  • Not be pregnant, not breastfeeding, and not already in another trial for hernia recurrence
